Exclusive: Two big appointments to follow Philippe Clement as new Rangers boss looks to solve injury

TEAMtalk understands Rangers are set to make further big changes at the club following last week’s appointment of Philippe Clement as new manager, with two backroom appointments to be made.

The Belgian coach hopes to assist the Scottish giants keep pace with Celtic while also recovering from a disastrous 2022/23 season and a slow start to the current season.

Rangers have struggled with injuries and player health this season and last,

and reports say the club is looking to recruit a new Head of Performance to help address this.

CEO James Bisgrove is believed to be leading the process, which is still in its early phases.

New Rangers manager Clement is said to be fascinated with fitness and player well-being,

and he plans to overhaul the club’s training program by taking a different approach than past managers.

Over the last two seasons, Glasgow has been plagued by injuries,

with key players missing on a regular basis. Kemar Roofe, Ryan Jack,

Todd Cantwell, Jose Cifuentes, Ridvan Yilmaz, Steven Davis, Borna Barisic, Danilo,

Kieran Dowell, Tom Lawrence, and Rabbi Matondo have already missed games due to injury in the 23/24 season.

Rangers name ‘excellent candidate’ Philippe Clement as new permanent manager.

As the team strives to present its best XI, defender Connor Goldson and club captain James Tavernier have occasionally played through ailments.

This has prompted the Gers to respond,

and Bisgrove is taking the lead in ensuring that Clement has the greatest alternatives available at all times.

Rangers are also looking to hire a new director of football after Ross Wilson left for Premier League club Nottingham Forest in April.

A decision on the appointment is expected within the next few weeks.

The club is second in the Scottish Premiership with 18 points after nine matches,

seven points behind champions and fierce Glasgow rivals Celtic. They’ve already lost league games to Kilmarnock,

Celtic, and Aberdeen this season.

Clement, who succeeded Michael Beale as manager earlier this month,

led Rangers to a 4-0 win over Hibernian at Ibrox last Saturday in his debut game in command.
