Top 25 NFL free agents include Tee Higgins, Brian Burns, pair of star Chiefs defenders
This offseason’s NFL free agency may not be centered around a single player,
but rather around a team attempting to hold onto two of its finest players.
Perhaps someone can catch the Kansas City Chiefs and win a Super Bowl if they are unable to hold onto all of their best players.
This offseason, the Chiefs don’t have many big questions, but they do have two of the top 10 free agents in our top 25.
Retaining cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and defensive lineman Chris Jones will be difficult,
but doable. It’s essential to their hopes of winning a third consecutive championship.
And the franchise tag might be used, as it usually is with a high-profile free agent.
The top 25 prospective free agents as the new league year draws near are listed below,
however several players on the list may be granted the franchise tag or extended before March 13,
when free agency officially begins:
Chiefs of Kansas City 1. DL Chris Jones
From being consistently underappreciated, Jones rose to become a three-time Super Bowl champion and a possible Hall of Famer. Despite being a first-team All-Pro the previous two seasons,
he will turn 30 in June and still has more to offer.
During his season-long holdout last season, he reportedly demanded $30 million annually,
and he will likely rank among the NFL’s highest-paid defensive players.
In front of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade spectators,
he declared, “I ain’t going nowhere.” We’ll see if that turns out to be accurate.
2. EDGE of Jacksonville Jaguars Allen Josh
After a season in which he recorded 17.5 sacks,
Allen—who was selected seventh overall in the draft—will be 27 the following season. On the open market, Allen would receive a huge contract, but it’s
3. WR Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals
As we’ve seen, during the last few years
, the receiver market has flourished
. Furthermore, on many teams, Higgins would have been a No. 1. Despite having an inconsistent and injury-plagued season, he has proven that he is a top target for any offense.
4. EDGE of Carolina Panthers Burns, Brian
Burns was reportedly offered two first-round draft picks by the Rams to Carolina in 2022,
but the Panthers turned them down. That speaks volumes about Burns’s worth.
After five seasons, he was a first-round selection once. He has 46.5 sacks.
5. CB for the Chicago Bears Johnson, Jaylon
Johnson was the cornerback with the highest Pro Football Focus grade in the previous campaign.
Next season, he will just be 25 years old. Before his major breakthrough,
the Bears were unable to come to a long-term agreement,
and now they will probably have to employ the franchise tag in order to retain him.
