After just one season in charge, Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans was proud of his team’s accomplishments. He transformed a team that had only managed three victories the previous season, sending them to the divisional round of the playoffs and winning their first AFC South championship since 2019. But as Ryans puts it, the Texans need to “earn it again next year,” and this offseason is essential to that.

Pro Football Focus reports that the Texans should have $69,959,976 in cap space available for the 2017 offseason, as reported by Over The Cap. Based on PFF’s estimations, this ranks them third in the league in terms of available finances, ahead of only the Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders. It was wise to sign free agent Devin Singletary last year. He gained 3,151 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns on 672 runs over his four seasons with the Bills. He also added 971 yards and four additional touchdowns with 145 receptions.

The Texans’ offense had some brilliant moments in the 2023 campaign, but they must make changes at running back this offseason. Despite poor run protection, Devin Singletary led the club with 898 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Signing Singletary again might be a wise decision for Houston.

But who else is available at running back if not Singletary? Could the Texans sign a well-known running back by modestly expanding their budget with this cap space?
