Breaking News: Philippe Clement has been cautioned that his players must avoid complacency or face a “slap in the face” from Celtic.

That’s the opinion of former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson,

who was thrilled to see his former club knock their rivals off their perch at the top of the Premiership table with a 3-0 victory against St Johnstone last weekend.

Clement has done an excellent job of keeping title chatter at bay this season, but he eventually sent out a “top of the league” message for fans to get excited about.

The Light Blues face challenging matchups ahead, including Hearts and Kilmarnock, and Ferguson knows Celtic may respond at any time.

That’s why he made it obvious to Clement that he needed to keep his players grounded, as he has.

“You don’t want to get carried away and get slapped in the face,” he said on GO Radio. “Enjoy it.

” Enjoy it on the way back, but put your blinkers on. Hearts will arrive, and Steven Naismith will fancy his chances at Ibrox. They should maintain their feet on the ground.

“I predicted last week that Rangers and Celtic will win all of their games up until April 7. How mistaken was I? Celtic lose a few points, but Rangers face a difficult challenge in Kilmarnock.

“That will be a tough one for the Rangers, but they look to be in a different place right now. Most importantly, they do not get carried away. They’ve gotten there, but there’s still work to do.”
