Finance Expert reacts as new future transfer already agreed at Rangers
Dan Plumley has insisted that was sensible of Rangers to park the idea of signing Fluminense left-back Jefte in January, in favour of a summer move.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on Deadline Day that the Gers had reached a verbal deal to sign the South American defender once the season ended.
The football finance specialist stated that the agreement seemed to be fair for all parties,
with Philippe Clement not in desperate need of a new left-back at this point in the season at Ibrox.
“We looked at the example of the benefits of having the Brazilian market open and what you can do with it,” he told Ibrox News exclusively.
“Here’s the counter-argument, in terms of how the transfer market can operate against you, and when you’ve got those connected parties between players and clubs, and whether or not you’re looking at buying now or on loan, you need everyone on board.
“If one particular side is not willing to do that, then sometimes for all that added money and inconvenience,
and the incredible amount of effort that has to go into a transfer, especially in mid-season,
when you factor all of that in and there is a deal to be done.
Jefte is currently on loan at APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, therefore signing him during the previous winter window would have cost twice as much.
No doubt, James Bisgrove and John Bennett were content to wait,
and Clement is repaying them for the money they did spend by claiming first place in the Scottish Premiership this weekend.
