Following the Green Brigade’s demonstration of support for the Palestinian cause over the weekend, free agency winger Anwar El Ghazi offered to play for Celtic without charge. But he is unable to do so.

El Ghazi has already played for two clubs this season. According to FIFA regulations, a player may only participate in two campaigns at a time.

The winger for the Netherlands national team played twice for Johan Cruijff Schaal and Feyenoord in the Eredivisie in the beginning of 2023–2024. After that, he joined Mainz in Germany at the close of the summer transfer season. He participated in three Bundesliga matches prior to his contract expiring in November.

Why prolific winger Won’t Play For Celtic This Season.

El Ghazi is a free agent and may sign with Celtic despite being unable to play for any other teams this season. This is due to the fact that athletes can sign with three teams but only participate for two of them throughout a season.

Come summertime, a move for El Ghazi would be something to monitor. El Ghazi has the quality, but the Celtic hierarchy would be licking their hands at a player who offered to play for nothing.

He is still only 28 years old, skilled on both the left and right wings, and has played for Aston Villa for more than 100 games. He has also played for Ajax for exactly 100 games. El Ghazi would provide quality that some of Celtic’s existing wingers might not have given him, having played innumerable games in the top divisions of the English, French, and Dutch leagues in addition to Champions League and Europa League experience.
