Heading Up Parkhead Dressing Room Meeting: Celtic Trio
Greg Taylor revealed that following Celtic’s unexpected 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock, which left supporters dissatisfied and calling for change, the team held a heart-to-heart meeting. Rangers’ 3-0 victory over St Johnstone and the draw caused Celtic to fall significantly behind in the title race, which prompted captain Callum McGregor to conduct a team-wide introspection session.
Along with Joe Hart and Taylor, captain Callum McGregor led an open discussion regarding the team’s recent slump in performance. “We had a chat in the changing room after the game,” Taylor said to SunSport. It’s crucial to remember that we still have 12 league games left, and we must undoubtedly up our game in terms of performance.
Taylor emphasized the team’s shared accountability and the inclusive nature of the discussions, saying, “We want to hit the levels we know we can hit, but we all talked about that after the game—coaches, management, and all the players were involved. We all want to give the fans a better performance since we are one united team.
While noting the high expectations of the fans, Taylor expressed empathy for their concerns by saying,
“Dropping points is disappointing and I feel for the supporters as they expect so much more from us, and rightly so.”
We must maintain perspective since there is still a long way to go—it’s just February.
However, we do require a performance standard.
Although Taylor stated, “It’s probably better just to leave that in the changing room,”
the details of the dressing-room conversations are kept private.
However, he did emphasize that all players, even new ones,
have a shared responsibility to uphold the club’s high standards.
“The boys HAVE to get it when you have leaders like Callum, Joe, and me,” he declared.
“I think we were quite dominant in the first half. However,
we lost that control in the later phases, which is frustrating.
And our task is to attempt to determine why that occurs.
“I wouldn’t say it’s because of anxiety from the stands,
the players here should be able to deal with that,” he said,
highlighting the professionalism of the team and dismissing the idea that fan anxiety could affect the team’s composure.
Even if the current deficit is only two points,
Celtics supporters should only expect this team to lose more games in the coming weeks without a major turnaround.
This season, Celtic’s club complacency has severely let the supporters down.
