19 FEBRUARY 1916,
SATURDAY This season,
Celtic has been overwhelming everyone in their path.
However, they are playing Queen’s Park at Hampden in a closer match than usual,
and their narrow triumph is down to a goal from Patsy Gallacher in the second half.
Conscription is now a factor in the war,
which will be problematic for Glasgow and Ireland alike.
19 FEBRUARY 1927,
SATURDAY In front of a massive crowd of 37,471,
Celtic defeated Dundee 4-2 in the Scottish Cup at Dens Park thanks to goals from Jimmy McGrory,
Adam McLean,
Paddy Connolly, and Willie McStay.
Nearing the conclusion of his career,
former favorite Joe Cassidy (who had scored the goal that won the Scottish Cup in 1923) now playing for Dundee and has little effect on the Celtic defense
. The Black slave ballad “Poor Old Joe” is sung by Celtic fans,
however it’s meant to be sung with love rather than contempt.
Sun., Feb. 19, 2006 – At East End Park,
Celtic defeated the unfortunate Dunfermline 8-1 to set a new SPL record.
With four points from Maciej Zurawski,
one apiece from Stilian Petrov,
John Hartson, Shaun Maloney, and Neil Lennon (a rare occasion for Neil).
