Russell Wilson, the star quarterback for the Denver Broncos, is slated to be released following a poor two-year stint.
Wilson is aware that his time in Denver is over.
Due to $37 million in injury protection that was scheduled to become guaranteed in the upcoming league year,
Wilson was benched for the remainder of the season. Two months before the new year,
he realised that his days in Denver were numbered.
Jarrett Stidham, the team’s backup quarterback, started ahead of Wilson,
hurting the team’s chances of qualifying for the postseason. In their first season together,
the organisation have high hopes for Wilson and head coach Sean Payton. But throughout the game,
a few problems surfaced that were even covered by the media at the end of the season.
During a play that resulted in a penalty, Payton was seen shouting at Wilson from the sidelines.
Even if Wilson was benched for the remainder of the season, the Broncos had no realistic chance of making the playoffs.
Payton told a reporter that his ranting at Wilson was “none of their business.”
This could cause him trouble later on if they look into Wilson’s maltreatment.
The NFLPA claims that the Broncos illegally threatened him about his contract.
They also defended Wilson when he claimed in November that Denver’s actions had violated the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.
Wilson was threatened by Denver with being taken out of the starting lineup if he would not restructure his contract and give up certain wage guarantees.

Payton could potentially be investigated if Wilson decides to move forward with legal action. However,
he benched Wilson which was primarily football-related and had nothing to do with contract threats.
This may be the case, but Wilson told another story to reports. He said that while being benched was football-related,
he pointed out that he was threatened to be removed from the lineup in November.
A month earlier than that the team finally pulled the hammer to bench him and replace the starter with Stidham.
Wilson still claimed that the team sat him down because he refused to remove the injury guarantee in his contract.
Once all of this was done, he was bound to leave Denver before things got way uglier.
Wilson and his wife, multi-platinum singer and songwriter Ciara, are accepting offers on their Colorado home.
This pretty much confirms that they’re on their way out once the free-agent market begins in March.
A story of two between Wilson and Payton was slowly shattering before ever getting better for the future of the organization.
Wilson posted on X last December stating “God’s got me. Looking forward to what’s next.”
This statement points out that he was long gone mentally before his release will be expected next month.
Potential Landing Spots for Wilson
It won’t be too long before Wilson finds a new NFL home after dealing with a disaster in Denver.
Given the contract, it’s still surprising he could be on the move to a new team.
Wilson is still expensive and his stock has gone down combined with a hefty contract.
He will still be pricey for the Broncos as he’s set to account for $35.4 against the salary cap.
The Steelers, Falcons, and Patriots are the three teams who might make a possible offer.
To give Kenny Pickett some competition, the Steelers are searching for a quarterback with the mobility and experience of a veteran.
Nonetheless, it appears like Atlanta and New England are more “QB-needy teams” in search of a dependable franchise quarterback.
