The starting lineup for Rangers’ matchup with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park in the

Scottish Premiership has been announced by manager Philippe Clement.

After Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Saturday, the Gers have the opportunity to

take the top spot in the standings with a win (17 February).

The team that defeated Ross County 3-1 midweek has undergone five changes, according to Clement,

as verified by the club’s Twitter account [18 February].

Ross McCausland, Rabbi Matondo, and Cyriel Dessers leave the team, and a significantly altered

offense is led by Oscar Cortes, Scott Wright, and Fabio Silva.

Tom Lawrence is replaced in holding midfield by Mohamed Diomande alongside birthday

boy John Lundstram. Borna Barisic is picked over Turkey international Ridvan Yilmaz at left back.

Major decision on Cyriel Dessers made by Phillipe Clement

In the midweek victory over Ross County, Dessers scored twice, but if he had seized more of his

opportunities, he easily might have scored four or five goals.

The striker now has two assists and five goals in his previous nine games, but Clement has chosen

to keep him out of this lineup, most likely due to fitness concerns.

The Welshman’s withdrawal is not a huge surprise considering Matondo was substituted off

during the previous outing, and McCausland is another player who could be getting extra protection.

This implies that Silva, Cortes, and Wright—who arrived in January—have an opportunity to

make an impression and demonstrate their merit as consistent starts.

Diomande, a fellow rookie, will also try to make an impression from a deeper position;

Lawrence is one of the replacements.

After another clean sheet, Clement goes with some consistency in defence, keeping four of

the back five, including goalkeeper Jack Butland, as they were.

St Johnstone can be defeated with this lineup, and that would be sufficient to move the Light

Blues over Celtic in the standings.

In other Rangers news, Clement gave an update on Borna Barisic’s future, a defender who

is reportedly leaving the team.
