Regarding what the Chicago Bears will do at quarterback in the off-season, everyone has an opinion. For the most part, it comes down to one of two things. It is most likely that they will trade Justin Fields to the highest bidder and choose their quarterback at number one overall, according to information from multiple elite insiders.

Right now, Caleb Williams is the front-runner in that scenario. The other is that the Bears will put the pick up for auction to a team that is desperate to keep Fields and land Williams in exchange for a sizable return of draft capital. But wide receiver Chad Johnson, a former Pro Bowler, took an entirely different route.

Together with Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, he is the host of the football program Nightcap. The Bears’ plans for the number one spot sparked a contentious debate between the two. Until someone makes him an absurd offer, Sharpe doesn’t think he will be leaving that spot. Johnson is certain that they will mislead everyone. How? through the exchange of Fields and the top overall pick. Sharpe, taken aback, questioned what the devil the Bears would do at quarterback in that situation.

He thinks the Bears will make every effort to accumulate draft picks. It is true that they would receive an unprecedented return if they traded both Fields and the first pick. It would, however, also significantly lessen their chances of locating a quarterback who can make a difference. For the Atlanta Falcons, Desmond Ridder had an 84.1 passer rating while tossing 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Over his career, Taylor Heinicke has racked up 39 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. Neither player possesses even the slightest amount of what would be considered franchise quarterback talent.

While draft selections are desirable, they are not assured. For the foreseeable future, this is the best chance the Bears will probably have to acquire a top quarterback. more so than the previous year.

It seems like a bad bet to give that up for a bunch of lottery tickets and two unknowns at the position. Though Chad Johnson has always been known for his bizarre perspectives, this one surpasses them all. It’s not even close to being a hot take. It is merely foolish.
All that can be hoped for is that Shannon can somehow help him avoid more of those down the road.
