Why Celtic women’s supporters are not permitted to attend the Rangers Old Firm derby match barely a day before kickoff has been explained
Just one day before Sunday’s SWPL Old Firm match at Ibrox, Rangers has canceled all of Celtic’s allocated away tickets.
Rangers lead their opponents by four points at the top of the league going into their Sunday afternoon matchup. However, the away
fans will not be attending the game since Rangers have reported that they have received information regarding some tickets being
bought by fans who are thought to be a security risk, necessitating the last-minute procurement of police.
In a statement, the Ibrox club clarified that they were unwilling to assume the risk of permitting supporters who they considered to be
refused to cancel the tickets of anyone who was thought to constitute a threat.
Rangers made the following announcement on their website: “We regret to inform Celtic FC supporters that all of their tickets for
Sunday’s game at Ibrox have tragically had to be canceled.
Information that Rangers and Celtic received on Thursday indicated that a sizable portion of ‘risk’ supporters had bought tickets from
the Celtic allotment.
“Police Scotland indicated they would need to deploy a large resource at short notice rather than it being a police-free fixture,
therefore Rangers convened an urgent operational meeting with both clubs and them.
“Rangers is dedicated to making sure that both our women’s and men’s teams have away fans at our games. But one distinctive feature
of the women’s game is the welcoming, family-oriented environment, with lots of kids present.
