Kemar Roofe is unlikely to receive a new Rangers contract before the conclusion of the season, according to Football Insider sources.

The striker, 31, is more set to leave Ibrox at the end of May, when his current contract expires.

Roofe is thought to be one of Rangers’ highest earners, but he has struggled with injuries since joining from Anderlecht in 2020.

The forward is currently sidelined with an injury sustained in December, and Philippe Clement has yet to provide an update on his probable return to play.

A reliable source has now revealed to Football Insider that the Jamaica international’s ongoing ailments are the reason for the club’s decision not to extend his contract.

Kemar Roofe has been ravaged by injuries at Rangers.

Roofe has made only 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring twice and assisting once.

The former Leeds player, who won the Scottish Premiership under Steven Gerrard in 2020-21, has 38 goals in 93 games for Rangers.

He cost the Glasgow giants almost £4.5 million four years ago.

Cyril Dessers and Fabio Silva are presently Ibrox’s first-choice forwards, with Clement’s side in their finest form of the 2023-24 season.

Borna Barisic is also likely to leave Rangers in May, with Football Insider reporting on Wednesday (14 February) that he is now looking to take advantage of his free agency status in the offseason.

The Ibrox team is competing with Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title, yet they are only second in terms of goals scored.
