Dessers scored a second before halftime, with John Souttar headed home in extra time;
Philippe Clement’s side trail leaders Celtic on goal difference.
Rangers drew level with Celtic on points but failed to convert enough of their numerous shots on goal to move to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Philippe Clement’s side needed to beat County by at least three goals to go above Celtic for the first time this season,
and Cyriel Dessers’ early goal gave them hope.
Simon Murray surprised the Rangers defenders with an equalizer before Dessers’ deflection header put the hosts ahead at halftime.
Rangers were wasteful, while County goalkeeper George Wickens made a number of saves to put Clement’s side at bay until John Souttar scored a third in injury time.
Victory keeps the pressure on champions Celtic, as Ross County remains 11th.Another large crowd flocked to Ibrox,
knowing that a three-goal success over a club that had never beaten Rangers in 23 attempts would mean the top spot changed hands.
A sense of anticipation weighed heavily in the air.
Dessers scored early,
receiving a pass from captain James Tavernier and brushing off the attention of defender Ryan Leak before lobbing the ball over stranded Staggies goalkeeper Wickens, and the Light Blues were out and running.
Wickens quickly had to push Tavernier’s powerful shot over the post for a corner, which the surprised Dingwall team survived.
Dessers beat Wickens in the 10th minute after receiving a pass from left-back Rıdvan Yilmaz, but the ball rebounded off the post.
Then Rabbi Matondo sprinted onto a defence-splitting cross from midfielder Lundstram and curled the ball beyond the far post,
before Wickens pushed the wide man’s attempt over the bar.
Tom Lawrence, Souttar, Tavernier, and Dessers all had good chances before Murray startled the home crowd with a calm volley from six yards following a wonderful Eamonn Brophy cross.
