“I’m a supporter of Justin because I got a chance to work with him when I was commissioner of the Big Ten conference,

” Warren said about Fields during an interview with WGN News, as shared by Ryan Taylor of NBC Sports Chicago.

“He is incredibly talented. He is smart. He works hard. And he wants to be a great NFL football player.

And now he just needs to make sure he has the support around him. He’s working hard. I would love to see him this offseason

and make sure he’s totally healthy going into the season next year.”

Warren did not have any direct working relationship with Fields prior to the last year when he was employed by the Bears in January 2023.

Fields finished the 2023 regular season with an 86.3 passer rating and a 46.1 adjusted QBR,

which placed him 24th and 23rd in the NFL among qualified players, according to ESPN data.

Over the course of 13 games, he completed 16 touchdown passes, nine interceptions, and 657 yards of rushes for four scores.

The expectation among analysts from CBS Sports, ESPN, and other publications is that the Bears will select a successor

for Fields with this year’s first overall draft pick.

“Justin has a rare combination of intelligence, of size, of strength and speed,” Warren added about his current QB1.

“You forget how big of a man he is until you’re up on him. He’s not a small man. I just think every year he’s going to continually get better.”

Before the new league year begins in March, Warren has nothing to lose by chatting up Fields,

particularly if teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers are keen to choose the 24-year-old. Warren, though,

probably won’t be able to stop media from associating the Bears in mock drafts with Caleb Williams, the outstanding signal-caller for the USC Trojans.

Williams’s relationship with the Bears is described as follows: “Williams fills their immediate need and presents an electric combination of accuracy

and playmaking for new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron,” according to an ESPN article published on Wednesday.
