’22-year-old Premier League talent deserves huge credit’ praised by Philippe Clement after record-breaking performance
George Wickens, the goalie for Ross County, had the “evening of his life” against Rangers, shattering the previous record for the most saves in a Scottish Premiership game.
According to BBC reporter Liam MacLeod, the young English goalkeeper, 22, who is on loan from Fulham, made a record-breaking 19 saves during the match.
It represents a remarkable evening at Ibrox, as Rangers tied Celtic for the most points in the Scottish Premiership, but were unable to find the extra goal that would have given them the lead.
Even though the Ross County goalkeeper would eventually give up three goals, George Wickens’ outstanding play was largely responsible for Rangers’ defeat.
Goalkeeper Philippe Clement is a native of Ross County.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement praised George Wickens after the team’s 3-1 Scottish Premiership victory.
The Ross County goalkeeper had the “evening of his life,” according to the Rangers manager, who asserted that luck was on his side.
According to Clement, “we had good possession play, good runs together, good tempo, and good shot.” We also had wave after wave of attacks.
However, we also had a goalie on the opposing team who may have had the best night of his life and some good fortune on his side.
“Thus, it could have been much more today, but naturally, a manager has to be happy with the 3-1 victory—though I’m not overly thrilled about it just yet because I can’t expect my players to perform better than they are right now.”
Against the Rangers, George Wickens shines.
Congratulations to George Wickens of Ross County goalkeeping for breaking the Scottish Premiership saves record on a regular basis.
The young goalkeeper for Fulham only made the team because number one Ross Laidlaw was injured when he joined Ross County on loan in January, good until the end of the season. Prior to the stint with Ross County, the 22-year-old had only played at the English National League level. For that reason, he deserves a ton of credit for standing up in a fierce Ibrox
Rangers had an impressive 23 shots on goal during the game, out of a total of 43 shots, so maybe George Wickens’ performance just emphasizes how unpredictable the match was at Ibrox.
