Steven Gerrard salary draws angry Saudi response after £6.3m claim over Liverpool icon and ex-Rangers boss

Al Ettifaq have been forced into a public address over claims made about the Liverpool legend and former Rangers manager’s wage.

Al Ettifaq has officially addressed Steven Gerrard’s wage in Saudi Arabia following allegations against the Liverpool star and former Rangers manager.

The former player is presently in the Middle East after his stint as manager at Aston Villa failed.

The team has had a rough season, with Jordan Henderson, one of their key summer signings,

electing to depart just six months after joining from Liverpool.

They have not won since October and return to league play this week against Al Khaleej.

Despite a nine-game winless streak in all competitions, Al Ettifaq is seventh in the 18-team league.

Gerrard was given a new contract until 2027 by the club’s executives last month,

with claims indicating he was earning £6.3 million year. Hatem Al-Meshal,

club vice-president and chairman of the football committee, addressed the issue on the Saudi sports show SSC.

According to Shooot, he ‘explicitly’ denied that was Gerrard’s wage, revealing that it was less than half of that.

The 43-year-old remarked of his extension last month:

“We realized from the start that this would be a big and demanding assignment.

“We needed to put in place new infrastructure, such as developing a new training facility in stages and a new stadium.

But a lot has been accomplished.“It’s a relationship between me and the management team above me that is growing,

building, and becoming stronger, and I’m very excited about the future.”

“I also recognize my position; this is a results-driven business. I never take it for granted.

I realize where we stand in the league, but I am convinced we will progress.

Kenny Miller believes Rangers will maintain their title momentum regardless of whether they finish first on Wednesday night.
