After hearing the criticism directed at the Boston Celtics for their perceived lack of toughness,

Jayson Tatum realizes that his team can only alter the narrative by winning a championship.

The Boston Celtics player made the announcement on “CBS Mornings” on Tuesday that his

foundation would be working with the SoFi Generational Wealth Fund to give low-income

families more chances to acquire a home and increase financial literacy by donating over $1 million.

But the CBS team would not let him leave without asking him a basketball-related question.

The Hall of Famer Charles Barkley recently claimed that the Celtics are “not mentally tough enough”

to win a title at this time. The co-hosts questioned Tatum about this statement.

Does Barkley have a point, they asked Tatum? The Celtics star responded by choosing the noble path.

“You do have to show some decency, right?” said Tatum. “Those are the guys who set the path

for myself and other younger players.”

“But,” said co-host Gayle King, who co-hosts a CNN program with Barkley, interrupted.

“It’s not always necessary to concur,” Tatum added, chuckling. But because of the effort

they put in, you have to respect it in a way. I recognize that given the times we live in.

Nobody can win a championship until you do, so you can’t win it. Therefore,

it’s okay that no one will give us credit until we really accomplish it.

In addition to being a Hall of Fame basketball player, Barkley is currently one

of the most well-known TV analysts. Barkley predicted Boston would win

the championship earlier in the season. But after watching the Celtics lose

at home to rival title contenders over the last several weeks, Barkley has stated

that he is “really concerned” about the club.

Barkley felt that Boston isn’t tough enough to seal the deal and is “just playing on talent.”

Following the Celtics’ defeat by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first week of February,

Barkley declared, “They’ve got a really good record, but they’re not gonna win the championship.”

Boston still has a significantly better record than any other team in the NBA at 41-12.

Tatum acknowledges that the team still has a significant postseason assignment ahead

of them to alter the narrative come playoff time.
