National team boss ‘worried’ about £3m Rangers man facing ‘unfair’ situation
The Rangers loanee Ianis Hagi is yet to start a game in 2024, which raises concerns
in his native Romania due to his lack of playing time with La Liga team Deportivo Alaves.
Things are not quite going as planned for the £3 million man, who had intended to attract
Philippe Clement’s attention in Spain before beginning his Ibrox career the following season.
This weekend, Ianis Hagi only saw four minutes of action as a substitute in Alaves’ 1-1 tie with
Villarreal. The Romanian international has only started six games in La Liga, and none of them
in the previous two months. That has been the tale of his career.
Ianis Hagi of the Rangers is battling in La Liga.
Technical director Mihai Stoichita of the Romanian national team tells Orange Sport,
“I’m a little worried here.” Because Ianis is so talented and I am aware that he doesn’t
hold back when it comes to training, I want him to play there. He plays football since
it’s his passion and he goes above and above for it. You can’t ignore him in that manner
indefinitely. I find it unfair that Alaves doesn’t play because I follow his matches as well.
In addition to being detrimental to the player personally, Hagi’s lack of playing time is also
not ideal for Romania. The former Genk playmaker, who scored the game-winning goal
in the 2-1 qualification victory over Israel in November, is a major reason why the Tricolorii
have the European Championships to look forward to in the summer, but he is now
acknowledging the very real possibility that he may be unprepared and undercooked
when he travels to Germany.
