A “significant” MLS transfer has been completed by an ex-Rangers misfit.
Almost seven years after leaving Ibrox, former Rangers midfielder Matt Crooks secured a “significant” transfer to Major League Soccer team Real Salt Lake.
To put it mildly, the Rangers’ transfer policy under Mark Warburton was dubious.
The addition of seasoned players like Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar, Philippe Senderos, and Clint Hill didn’t exactly pay off.
In addition, Rangers attempted to sign younger players from England. Joe Dodoo and Jordan Rossiter arrived to Ibrox with much anticipation but unfortunately failed to live up to expectations.
The two players’ raid on Accrington Stanley did not impress all of the fans. Josh Windass turned out to be a late arrival, and Matt Crooks had a disappointing spell at Ibrox.
Matt Crooks, an ex-Ranger who showed great promise at Accrington, signed a pre-contract agreement with the team alongside Windass.
The 6′ 4in midfielder scored goals from midfield and was signed by Rangers in the hope that he would flourish under Warburton.
But Crooks played for Rangers for just three games before being loaned to Scunthorpe United and then sold to Northampton Town.
It was at that time that Crooks’s 10 goals in 57 games secured him a promotion to the Championship. After joining the Cobblers, Crooks began to improve. In 97 games for Rotherham United, he scored 21 goals.
Crooks has persevered in identifying the objective for Boro, but he has decided to take a significant risk at the age of thirty.
The Major League Soccer team Real Salt Lake has formally declared Crooks’ signing. The terms of Crooks’ contract expire after the 2026 MLS season.
