The Reasons the Super Bowl Is Against the Bears Drafting Williams, Caleb

The Bears haven’t played in a Super Bowl since before the recession, so this could be it. However,

the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 victory over San Francisco on Sunday in overtime raises some eyebrows regarding the Bears.

Every time an NFL game or games are played, it speaks volumes about the particular club participating.

There were some extremely clear and some little more subtle comments mentioned about the Bears in the season finale of 2023.

It also mentioned the Bears’ excellent quarterback selection that will be made in the NFL Draft.

Here are some thoughts on the Chicago Bears from Super Bowl LVIII.

1. THE VISIBLE
What in the world was Ryan Pace thinking? Though it has been mentioned innumerable times already,

let me reiterate: Ryan Pace, what were you thinking? Mahomes, Patrick, or Mitchell Trubisky? Whoa.
2. GAP IN NARROWER
In overtime, the 49ers were one play away from taking home the Lombardi Trophy.

Even though they were the NFC’s best team, they lost to Detroit by just a field goal. With 4 1/2 minutes left in Detroit,

the Bears had already defeated the Lions 12 times in Chicago.
The Bears appear to be a long way from being able to play at such a high level against good teams,

but a closer examination of the matchups and results suggests that the climb may not be as steep.

They must demonstrate that it is not a steep ascent.
3. HAMMERING THE RECEIVER
George Kittle and Deebo Samuel both left San Francisco on Sunday due to injuries,

although they later returned. These players weren’t all first- or second-round draft picks;

the 49ers merely kept putting productive players on the field.

Seventh-round pick Jauan Jennings led them in receptions throughout the contest with four.

4. AVOID CONCERNING TACKLES IN THE DRAFT
Donovan Smith and Jawaan Taylor were the starting tackles for the Chiefs. Pro Football Focus grades for the two Bears starting tackles this season were higher than those two tackles’ grades, and they were also higher than one 49ers tackle. For the time being, the offensive line should be the center of attention, along with depth at other positions.
5. CONTINUE TO SEEK PASS RUSHERS

To strengthen the roster as much as possible, it actually did more to encourage the opposing viewpoint, which is that they should maintain Fields and exchange the right to select Williams for further picks. Williams may adopt many Mahomes-like traits, but Mahomes is one player, and even at his best, he was hardly good enough to defeat a club that had surrounded a seventh-round quarterback with skill.

To suggest that Williams will become the next Mahomes is an extremely audacious and unverified claim. Williams may have some stylistic similarities to Mahomes, but a quarterback with even a tiny bit less skill than Mahomes could never try many of the crazy things the Chiefs quarterback does against the world’s finest defenses. For a lesser player to attempt these things would be disastrous. Despite possessing all that talent, the actual Mahomes was marginally superior to the 49ers and their seventh-round quarterback on Sunday. After adding players to their roster and selecting quarterback with the final choice of the draft, the 49ers were one fourth down convert away from capturing the championship.
The Bears can let the rookie quarterback learn behind Fields for a year before he plays if they trade back for picks and select Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, J.J. McCarthy, or even Jayden Daniels, depending on what they can acquire for the first pick. Who knows, maybe in that extra year Fields does deliver? With the trade back, they would then have the resources to assemble a squad that could be on par with or even superior than the 49ers, with the difference being that they would be surrounding a first- or second-round choice rather than a seventh-rounder. That might make a difference if Mahomes and you play in a Super Bowl overtime in the future. Fields may not be the starting quarterback of the future, though.But with a strong team surrounding them, his chances—as well as the chances of any first- or second-round quarterback selected—would obviously be better than the last player selected with a strong team. This might have been enough to win a Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.
