Rangers set to Pocket £20m from the sale of a Phenomenal star rejected by Beale
Rangers set to Pocket £20m from the sale of a Phenomenal star rejected by Beale
Former Glasgow Rangers manager Michael Beale did not had the greatest of times in control of the club before leaving in October of last year.
In just over 10 months at Ibrox, the former Gers assistant failed to win a single trophy before being fired and replaced by Philippe Clement earlier this season.
Throughout the summer transfer window, the English tactician was allowed to bring in nine new acquisitions to improve his squad,
but many of them have raised concerns.
Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes, who had signed permanent contracts,
were already transferred to FC Utrecht and Cruzerio, respectively, last month.
Meanwhile, Kieran Dowell, a former Norwich City player, has only appeared in seven Scottish Premiership games since his transfer.
Beale did, however, pull off a rare coup by securing Jack Butland on a free transfer from Premier League club Crystal Palace for the 2023/24 season.
Jack Butland’s market value last summer
The former England international was theoretically valued at £0 last summer when the Eagles decided to release him for free at the end of the season.
This allowed Beale and the Gers to sign him for free after he spent the second half of last season on loan as a backup with Manchester United.
Butland did not make a single appearance for the Red Devils and did not play any games for his parent club in the first half of the season.
Rangers took a risk by signing a 30-year-old player who has not kicked (saved) a ball in anger in more than a year,
but it has paid off handsomely for the Scottish club.
Jack Butland’s current value
Former Rangers star Derek Ferguson described Butland as “phenomenal” in an interview with IbroxNews earlier this month,
stating that it would cost roughly £20 million for the club to consider selling him.
That happened shortly after the Light Blues reportedly turned off an approach from Premier League club Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window.
Interestingly, Stoke City valued the 30-year-old monster at a whopping £30 million in 2019,
and this alleged value of £20 million shows that the colossus is getting back to his best.
Scottish Premiership | Jack Butland – 23/24 | Allan McGregor – 22/23 |
---|---|---|
Appearances | 24 | 24 |
Save success rate | 79% | 57% |
Clean sheets | 15 | Eight |
Sofascore rating | 7.06 | 6.68 |
As shown in the table above, Butland has outperformed Allan McGregor this season,
with a substantially higher save success rate and average performance level in the Premiership.
This season, the English giant has 20 clean sheets and 29 goals conceded in 39 appearances for the club in all competitions,
averaging less than one goal conceded per match.
These statistics reveal that Rangers upgraded their team and acquired a fantastic performer by signing Butland from Palace for £0 last summer.
As a result, Beale pulled off a rare transfer coup with the former Stoke star, who is now being touted at £20 million,
whether a team would be willing to pay that or not and one he should be praised for.
