Crunch talks held with Board and Philippe Clement about his ‘Future and ‘atrocious’ Ibrox incident – Things are not looking good

Rangers manager Philippe Clement addressed the Ibrox board following their “atrocious” handling of the VAR situation during the most recent Old Firm battle.

That is according to writer Gary Keown, who shared the ruling after the Gers requested that Willie Collum not oversee their matches after they felt a decision against Celtic in December was unfair.

In that 2-1 setback, the official was the VAR, and Rangers were upset that he did not request

that referee Nick Walsh assess a probable Alistair Johnston handball.

Collum was the referee as the Ibrox club defeated Ayr United 2-0 in the Scottish Cup fifth round on Saturday (10 February).

“He was happy Collum was in charge of the visit to Ayr,” Keown wrote for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (page 96, 11 February).

“He’d spoken to the board about the atrocious handling of the Old Firm fallout that they hadn’t consulted him over.”

Rangers boss satisfied with Collum

The Rangers board can have few complaints about Clement, who has done an excellent job since taking over for Michael Beale earlier this season.

He has helped them catch up with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and led them to League Cup victory.

Furthermore, the manager has led the Gers to the Europa League knockout stages and, most recently, the Scottish Cup final stages.

However, the Glasgow club’s leadership may be dissatisfied with Clement’s statement that

he is fine with Collum refereeing their games [Sky Sports, 9 February], which contradicts the club’s position.

Clement has definitely moved on from the judgment against Celtic,

when it was revealed that a penalty was not awarded because Abdallah Sima was offside during the build-up. The board must also move on from the past.
