On Saturday, February 10, Rangers supporters were likely thrilled to see Ryan Jack, Nico Raskin, and Mohamed

Diomande in the midfield when the starting lineup against Ayr was revealed.

The latter was given his first Rangers shirt start since joining the team during the January transfer window, while the

former had only recently recovered from an injury.

However, Philippe Clement’s midfield has been Rangers’ biggest weakness in the opening 45 minutes, with the

Championship outlet attempting to get on level terms after Borna Barisic’s superb opener.

On Saturday, February 10, Rangers supporters were likely thrilled to see Ryan Jack, Nico Raskin, and Mohamed

Neil McCann stated on BBC Sportsound on February 10 at 5:53 p.m.: “The Rangers midfield is just gone at times.”

Jack, Diomande, and Raskin are all dead.

“Ayr United has opportunities to counterattack football if they can get their heads up and get it to Dowd.”

Pick of the bunch for Rangers

Honestly, Clement is capable of hitting any three of the midfield trio. But given Jack’s recent injury concerns, it

would make more sense to substitute Jack for Diomande or Raskin at halftime.

Although Raskin is also recovering from an injury, he has played more football than Jack despite just making two

cameos against Hibernian and St. Mirren. Since November, the Scotland international has played for just 105 minutes.

Rangers would be able to acquire considerably greater control over the midfield with the arrival of John Lundstram,

for example, and there would be no true connection between the offense and defense.

The Gers’ most impressive player thus far is Oscar Cortes, who assisted Barisic’s first goal and perhaps ought to have

scored himself after hitting the base of the post in the second minute.

Although the Colombian has been lowering himself a little more on his left flank, which has improved the connection

to the attack, the midfield liability still exists and might lead to additional issues in the second half.

In unrelated Rangers news, David Edgar responded to a Scottish club’s criticism of the SPFL over a Light Blues

dispute that was deemed “embarrassing.”
