Hopefully, this is the beginning of a healthy relationship between Rangers and the transfer market, as over the
previous few years, it has not been great, with money being wasted on a vast array of players.
Rangers’ recent transfer record
The Light Blues, led by Michael Beale, made significant summer acquisitions of Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, and
Danilo in the hopes that they would propel the team to success.
After seven months, Lammers is now on loan at Utrecht, Danilo is sidelined due to injury,
and Dessers has only scored 12 goals since signing.
Not only does Beale occasionally make poor moves, but his predecessor Giovanni van Bronckhorst also made a few blunders.
The Dutchman undersold a few players even though he managed the sales of Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey, and Nathan
Patterson, who all saw good returns.
Cedric Itten is a prime illustration. Van Bronckhorst was trying to raise money, therefore he left for a comparatively
tiny transfer price, but in the last eighteen months, Itten’s value has increased dramatically.

Itten only started nine of the 37 games in which he appeared for the Light Blues, he still managed to rack up three assists and six goals.
The center-forward was sent on loan to German team Greuther Furth, where he scored goals against Bayern Munich
and Eintracht Frankfurt, but this was insufficient to earn him a spot in the starting lineup for the 2021–2022 season.
Van Bronckhorst brought him back in January 2022.
The former Feyenoord manager clearly wanted an extra attacking option in his squad and he detailed his reasons behind recalling him early.
“Am I going to use Cedric? Indeed, we did call him back since he differs from Roofe and Morelos in certain ways, Van Bronckhorst added.
“In that sense, a striker like him will occasionally be needed in a game.”
