Rangers target €35m trio for summer Mega deal. Get it Done
Barry Ferguson has shared what he thinks of Willie Collum taking charge of Rangers vs Ayr United in the Scottish Cup this evening.
The seasoned whistler will be the man in the middle at Ibrox as both teams compete for a spot in the competition’s quarter-finals.
Collum has infuriated Rangers fans for years,
but everything came to a head during and after the Old Firm derby loss to Celtic at Parkhead.
He was on VAR duty and inexplicably failed to request an on
-field review to Nick Walsh following Alistair Johnston’s blatant handling inside the penalty box.
Abdallah Sima was later seen to be in an offside position prior to the incident,
but when Rangers reviewed the VAR audio privately,
they claimed there was ‘no suggestion of a potential offside’.
Rangers then filed an official complaint with the SFA and SPFL,
requesting that Collum not be hired as an official in any future Gers games.
That request was denied, and Collum has been nominated to officiate the Ayr United game this afternoon.
Philippe Clement was enraged by VAR’s failure to detect Celtic’s handball offence in the Old Firm game,
but despite his club’s request for Collum, he is unconcerned that the whistler will officiate at Ibrox today.
Barry Ferguson was then asked for his thoughts,
and he told The Go Radio Football Show what he thought of Collum refereeing the Scottish Cup fifth round match.
Ferguson stated, “I have no problem with Willie Collum managing the game tomorrow.
Look, humans make mistakes, and what the manager said there was completely accurate.
“I don’t believe this ever happens with referees; they have no bias against anyone.
They go out and do the best they can.
“Is there a good standard of refereeing here? No, I do not think so. But for one minute,
I don’t believe people go out there to make mistakes or whatever.
“They are only human; who would want to be a referee?”
