“Clement represents a foreigner’s point of view and he’s not inflicted”- “We need foreign managers in SPFL – Hugh Keevins
Hugh Keevins commended Rangers manager Philippe Clement for how he handled concerns about referee Willie Collum.
Collum has been chosen to officiate the Gers’ Scottish Cup fifth-round match
against Ayr United at Ibrox on Saturday (10 February).
That is despite Rangers’ request to the Scottish FA not to include
the official in their fixtures following the Celtic game in December.
Speaking at his news conference on Friday (9 February),
Clement stated that he is “happy” with the appointment since it allows everyone to move forward.
In response to those remarks, Daily Record journalist Keevins stated on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard [9 February, 1hr, 20m 24s]:
“We need foreign managers here, because they are not affected by the rest of Scotland and what happens there in terms of refereeing.
“Clement represents a foreigner’s point of view – he’s not inflicted.”
“It demonstrates Philippe Clement’s rapid rise to power. He basically stated, ‘the next time you think about doing something like that, speak to me first’.”
Willie Collum is back on Rangers duty at Ibrox.
Clement continues to impress in all areas.
Not only has he demonstrated that he is a terrific manager in terms of tactics and brave decisions, but he is also a brilliant speaker.
The Belgian might have made a big deal out of the scenario, but instead he shot it down in an instant, and now it’s kind of a non-story.
The uproar over the Old Firm defeat to Celtic a few months ago is still fresh in the mind,
but Collum’s absence from our games was never going to happen.
Even if many people disagree with the choice, this cup tie with Ayr is a decent way to put an end to the drama.
Clement, incidentally, spoke calmly and precisely about his decision to uphold Dujon Sterling’s red card,
noting that it is never easy as a referee.
Fingers crossed that this cup match ends with no major talking points and Rangers advance to the next round.
