Breaking News: Scotland International Quits Ibrox this Summer
In May, McLaughlin, a two-cap Scotland international, will be allowed to leave Rangers for free.
Sources have informed Football Insider that Jon McLaughlin is not anticipated to receive a new contract offer from the Rangers.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper’s current contract is scheduled to expire at the end of May, but he currently occupies the third spot in the Ibrox hierarchy.
Thus far in the 2023–24 season, McLaughlin has not participated in a single minute of action for the Rangers.
Since Jack Butland joined on a free transfer from Manchester United last summer, the veteran has not been included in a single matchday squad this season (2023).
Allan McGregor, a seasoned player, retired from football at the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season. Butland took his place.
Robby McCrorie is now considered the backup option.
During the previous season, McLaughlin made 16 appearances in all competitions, giving up 18 goals and maintaining eight clean sheets.
He made five appearances for Rangers in the Champions League, assisting them in making it to the group stage.
The goalkeeper joined the Glasgow giants in 2020 from Sunderland and has since made 46 appearances for the team.
McLaughlin was included in the squad for Euro 2020 and has played for Scotland at the senior level twice.
This season, Butland has made 38 appearances in all competitions, giving up 29 goals and maintaining 19 clean sheets.
Rangers trail rivals Celtic only on goal differential despite holding the second-place spot in the Scottish Premiership.
