January signings Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande might make their Rangers full debuts

against Ayr United in the Scottish Cup fifth round on Saturday at Ibrox.

That is according to Philippe Clement, the Gers manager debating whether or not to take chances against second-tier opposition,

although one who is all too eager to play the part of David against the Glasgow Goliath,

with former Celtic captain Scott Brown in the dugout.

Clement says that Rangers will be allowed to field Ben Davies and Ryan Jack against Ayr United.

There is also the ‘possibility’ of inaugural starts in Scottish football for Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande,

the former arriving on loan from Lens and the latter a £4 million or more winter acquisition from FC  Nordsjaelland in Denmark.

“They are ready to start but not yet to play 90 minutes,” Clement explains. So that’s an option, yes.”

Diomande made his Rangers debut as a substitute in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Aberdeen. Cortes,

on the other hand, was a buzzing and dynamic presence on the left side of the courtroom.

Clement has praised Cortes, a Colombia international signed by Lens for £4 million, for adapting quickly to life in the United Kingdom.

For Tom Lawrence and Leon Balogun, Ayr’s visit will come too soon.

“Ben Davies is back in for selection (but) Tom Lawrence will not be in the squad,” Clement continues,

hoping to avoid overloading a player with a ‘history of ailments’. “We need to be cautious with guys.

There is clear communication between the medical staff and the players.

“Leon (Balogun) went to see the specialist, and I expect him back next week, not today. Is it Ross County,

or the weekend? I am not sure about that. It’s not a long-term situation. “We’ll see how things progress next week.”

Clement confirmed that Balogun will be wearing a mask for the foreseeable future after suffering a facial injury in last week’s 3-0 win over Livingston.
