Ibrox B team loses against Celtic, an Old Firm foe, despite the long-awaited injury comeback of young Rangers striker Zak Lovelace.

The 18-year-old striker began the match on the substitute bench as Celtic defeated Rangers Academy 3-0 at Lennox town in the Glasgow Cup.

Following a disastrous few months, Zak Lovelace, who replaced Josh Gentles with 58 minutes remaining, has played

30 minutes, marking a significant improvement for the young Rangers star.

The teenage hitman was last seen wearing Rangers colors during the 2-0 Scottish Premiership victory against St

Mirren in October. Hopefully, he can return to the starting lineup as soon as feasible.

Zak Lovelace returns from injury

Lovelace, an English youth international, suffered a terrible hamstring injury after making his debut in October

under Steven Davis’ temporary leadership.

In Paisley, the youthful striker was given the chance to make his debut for the Ibrox club and set up the first goal.

James Tavernier duly scored the spot kick after Lovelace forced the ball over the St. Mirren area with a handball

from Ryan Strain, and the striker was eventually carried off on a stretcher.

Zak Lovelace was forced into a recuperation time, whereas Ross McCausland, the young Northern Irishman

participating from the beginning under Davo, has flourished since that game.

Hopefully, the child has moved past that and Rangers will be able to witness more of the young abilities

of the former Millwall striker.

Rangers manager hints at squad role

While talking about the striker dilemma in Glasgow, Rangers boss Philippe Clement also made a suggestion on Zak

Lovelace’s potential for a spot in his side.

Rangers currently have just two healthy forward options in Cyriel Dessers and Fabio Silva due to injuries to Kemar Roofe, Danilo, and Abdallah Sima.

Speaking to the press about a failure to sign another body in January, Clement pointed

to Lovelace potentially filling the void.

“We also have Zak Lovelace, who was hurt,” Clement remarked. Though I haven’t seen him live with me, I have seen

him before, and he seems like a promising future prospect. As a result, you can have up to seven strikers, but you can’t play them all.

Following his summer 2022 arrival, Zak Lovelace has made four appearances for the Rangers main team.
