Ibrox View: Lack of game time may see Rangers player join Brighton or Leicester in summer

Brighton and Leicester City could prove to be desirable destinations for Rangers attacker Zak Lovelace in the summer transfer window.

The 18-year-old’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season,

and the Daily Record stated on 7 February that it is still unclear whether he has secured a role in Philippe Clement’s first-team plans.

They report that the Gers fended off interest from Brighton and Leicester to sign the young English attacker in 2022.

However, he has made only four senior appearances since then and has recently returned to B Team action after being sidelined with a major hamstring injury since October.

If he does not get more playing time between now and the end of the season, he may decide to quit Ibrox.

Brighton might tempt Lovelace to leave Rangers.
Brighton is recognized as one of Europe’s greatest teams for developing young talent and turning them into first

-team players that fetch eight and nine figures, as was the case with Moises Caicedo.

At 18, Lovelace is still a few years away from peaking, thus signing him on a free transfer carries very little risk.

Rangers understand that they cannot keep talented players like him for too long,

therefore the next step should be to offer him game time and sign him to a new contract.

Even Ross McCausland was linked with a move elsewhere,

but ensuring he signed a new contract provides Gers market power.

They can then decide how much to ask for him when clubs like Brighton and Leicester come calling.

Even if it’s this summer, Leicester has a decent chance of being promoted to the Premier League,

so they’ll have more money to spend on new players.
