‘I understand…’ – Journalist details fresh Rangers talks for new signing after failed Ibrox move

According to GIVEMESPORT’s Dean Jones, Rangers will maintain contact with Fluminense defender Jefte.

The reporter clarified that the Ibrox club likes the left-back and will keep an eye on him despite his loan at APOEL

Nicosia. Rangers have a verbal agreement in place to react to the option to sign Jefte after their January move for

him fell through, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X on January 31.

“Knowing that a player has been trying to make a bit of a fuss to force a transfer to your club, that’s always a nice

sign,” Jones said to GIVEMESPORT on February 7. Later on in the game, you should support that player.

“So, it doesn’t always work out that the player has another opportunity to make the move. But Rangers did like him,

and I’m sure they will continue to keep tabs on him. I understand they will keep avenues open on conversations with

the player to reassure him that he’s still in their thoughts.” “It doesn’t always work out like that. Sometimes, that

opportunity passes up. We’ve seen it in some high-profile cases before. For example, we had Joao Palhinha at

Fulham, who was on the verge of joining Bayern Munich at one point. He was at the training ground and had all his

photos and interviews done, and then it didn’t happen. That deal didn’t resurface the following transfer window.”

Do Rangers still want Jefte?

During the January transfer window—Philippe Clement’s first chance to acquire and sell players at Ibrox—Rangers were undoubtedly busy.
And he was far more active in the former category, bringing on loan signings Fabio Silva, Oscar Cortes, and Mohamed Diomande to the team.
Another significant departure was midfielder Jose Cifuentes, who signed with Cruzeiro after only moving to Scotland from Los Angeles FC in the summer.

Now, all eyes will be on the upcoming summer transfer window, where Jefte might be the first player to arrive.

Given that Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz have been vying for the left-back spot at Rangers lately, it will be interesting to see what happens there at the end of the season.

More intriguingly, Yilmaz has been connected to an exit, while Barisic’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the current campaign.
