Momentum is steadily building in various mock drafts indicating that the Denver Broncos are poised to select a quarterback with their No. 12 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

It’s a logical move considering the team’s likely departure from Russell Wilson this offseason, despite any statements made by GM George Paton and head coach Sean Payton during their end-of-season press conferences.

Even NFL figures like former MVP Matt Ryan, speaking from the Super Bowl, share skepticism about Wilson’s return to Denver, as expressed to our own Andrew Mason in Las Vegas.

ESPN previously projected Michigan’s national champion QB, J.J. McCarthy, to land in Denver, and CBS Sports recently followed suit. Josh Edwards writes, “McCarthy’s winning record and accuracy could easily capture Sean Payton’s admiration and lead him to bring the national champion to the Rocky Mountains.”

McCarthy boasts an impressive 72.3% completion rate for the Wolverines in 2023, guiding them to a flawless 15-0 record. With 22 touchdowns and just four interceptions, he’s proven himself on the field, standing at 6-foot-3 and 197 pounds.

Other QB prospects like Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. have also been mentioned, but top prospects Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are likely out of reach, with the latest mocks projecting them as top picks.

With roughly 2.5 months until the NFL Draft, the landscape could shift, but early signs point towards McCarthy potentially landing in Denver. He would mark the Broncos’ first first-round QB selection since Paxton Lynch, setting a modest benchmark for success.
