Refused! Commanders are blocked by the Cowboys from interviewing two coaches on the Dan Quinn staff.

The Dallas Cowboys have refused to allow the Washington Commanders to interview tight ends coach Lunda

Wells and defensive backs coach Al Harris for the position of head coach Dan Quinn’s staff.

Although Dan Quinn, a former offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys,

was able to join the Washington Commanders as head coach, their divisional foe will not

give them carte blanche when it comes to members of their existing coaching staff.

According to an ESPN story published on Thursday morning, the Commanders were not

allowed to speak with defensive backs coach Al Harris or tight ends coach Lunda Wells of the Cowboys.

In 2008, Wells started working as a coach at LSU as an offensive line assistant. In 2012,

after being promoted to assistant special teams coach and head coach’s assistant,

he departed the Tigers to join the New York Giants as an offensive assistant.

Before assuming the role of tight ends coach in 2018, the Louisiana native worked for seven

seasons as an assistant line coach in New York. In 2020, Wells was hired as Dallas’ tight ends coach,

and since then, he has played a key role in the growth of both current top option

Jake Ferguson and former Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz.

In the coaching ranks, Harris is seen as a rising talent. From 1998 to 2011,

the Texas A&M-Kingsville graduate played 14 seasons as a starting cornerback in the

National Football League (NFL). His greatest seasons occurred from 2003 to 2009

while he was a member of the Green Bay Packers.

Harris was chosen for the Pro Bowl following his seasons with Green Bay in 2007 and 2008.

In 2007, the AP also selected him as a second-team All-Pro. After his playing career ended,

Harris joined the Miami Dolphins coaching staff as an intern under head coach Joe Philbin.

From 2013 to 2018, he served as defensive backs coach for the Kansas City Chiefs,

working under head coach Andy Reid, with whom Harris spent five seasons as an Eagle.

Floyd has been a defensive lineman with the Minnesota Vikings for five years.

He has held the positions of defensive quality control coach and assistant defensive line coach.

In February 2023, Ohnegian became a member of the Cowboys scouting and training staff.

He has also acted in motion pictures. In The Replacements, he costarred with Keanu Reeves as

the center for the pretend Washington Sentinels. He also played the role of Al Pacino’s

Miami Sharks center in the movie Any Given Sunday.

Joe Whitt Jr., who has worked with Quinn as the Commanders’ defensive coordinator for the

past four seasons in Dallas, has already been named to the position.
