With Celtic facing Hibs tonight at Easter Road, Brendan Rodgers’ team will need all three points to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

More missed points at Pittodrie on Saturday have forced Chris Sutton to inform Brendan Rodgers that there is a significant problem at Celtic that the manager must address.

Sutton told Sky Sports, “There’s a very apparent momentum swing since Philippe Clement joined Rangers.

He is assembling a team that is growing in confidence by the week.

“They found a way to win tonight, but they were content in the end. It wasn’t all pretty, but they crossed the finish line.

“And Celtic have been inconsistent, which is their main problem.

“They do not have a fantastic record at Easter Road under Brendan Rodgers so it’s time for Celtic to go there and respond.”

Celtic’s form this season under Brendan Rodgers is concerning.

There is no denying that Celtic have struggled to gain momentum under Brendan Rodgers this season.

Let’s compare the team’s current results to those under Ange Postecoglou last season.

After 24 games this season, Rodgers has two losses and four draws.

Rangers’ back-to-back losses to Kilmarnock and Hearts in December enabled them to dramatically narrow the gap at the top of the table.

The draws have all been against teams suffering at the bottom of the standings.

Celtic fell behind in the title race early in the season after drawing 0-0 at St Johnstone in August and Hibs in October.

Rodgers has now surrendered 14 points this season,

including a draw at Motherwell in November and another on Saturday at Pittodrie. [Transfermarkt]

Let us now look at Celtic’s performance last season under Ange. Postecoglou’s team was dominant in the race for the title.

A shocking 2-0 setback to St Mirren in September galvanized Celtic into action,

and they went on an unprecedented 12-game winning streak.

That run came to an end in a 2-2 draw with Rangers at Ibrox in January, and Postecoglou’s team went on to win the next four games.

So, at the same stage last season, Celtic dropped only four points under Postecoglou, which is a major source of anxiety for Celtic fans.

Rangers are in the race, not because they are better. It’s apparent that Celtic’s standards have fallen significantly since last season,

which is why there is a title challenge.
