A young Rangers fan faces a five-year ban from football games after injuring a Celtic

supporter with a glass bottle thrown at the away crowd.

On January 2, 2023, Lee Findlay, then 19 years old,

struck Owen Murphy at Ibrox Stadium.

The Gers played their local rivals, and Kyogo Furuhashi

scored a late equalizer to give the visitors a 2-2 victory.

Near the end of the game, Findlay, who was 17 at the time,

looked around the away section before picking up a bottle of Buckfast and

hurling it at the Celtic supporters.

Mr. Murphy’s forehead was slashed twice, leaving him permanently scarred.

Since then, Celtic has refused tickets to Ibrox, a move

the Hoops blamed on stadium safety issues.

The team reported events in which home supporters’

objects were hurled and struck staff members and fans.

The entire last meeting between the two teams took place in front of Rangers fans,

and Celtic prevailed 1-0.

Findlay, the first offender, entered a guilty plea to culpable and reckless conduct at

Glasgow Sheriff Court.

“As the match was coming to an end, Mr. Murphy was struck on the head with a

bottle of Buckfast that had been thrown from the directions of the home supporters,”

stated prosecutor Lauren Aitchison.

“Mr Murphy was noted to be bleeding from the top of his head and

as a result attended the medical room.”
