Andy Halliday believes Rangers would currently be the favorites to win the Scottish Premiership if they had bought a

credible striker in January.

In anticipation of the January transfer window, Light Blues supporters thought a No. 9 would be

added to the team to back up Cyriel Dessers.

Both Danilo and Kemar Roofe are out permanently due to injuries, and although Fabio Silva was brought in on loan

from Wolves, the £35 million Portuguese player doesn’t seem to be a true striker.

Before leaving for the AFCON with Senegal, Abdallah Sima was a reliable goal scorer for Rangers. After that, the

winger had a significant thigh injury, which may have limited Rangers’ possibilities for scoring goals.

Former Rangers midfielder Halliday, who joined Mother well in January after leaving Hearts, believes his former

team isn’t currently the favorite to win the championship.

But in his opinion, they would have a better chance of unseating Celtic for the league title if they had signed a goal-

scoring regular last month.

Halliday feels that even if Dessers has been performing well lately, Rangers needed competition in the previous

window to help them win more titles this season since Dessers is unpredictable.

Andy Halliday on title race

“For me, if Rangers went and got a No. 9 in January that you think is going to score 15 goals between now and the

end of the season, then I might say ‘you know what, they are favourites for the title,'” Andy Halliday said on the Open Goal podcast.

It’s unjust to Dessers because he has been performing admirably lately, but sometimes you never know what to expect (from him).

“I believe this one is going very down to the wire because I still imagine both clubs dropping points—there are still

two Old Firm games—and I’ve said this for the last couple of years, and both times I’ve been incorrect.

“Fabio Silva’s goal scoring record isn’t particularly impressive, but. I am referring to a man who will consistently

surpass your ambitions every single week. That is not in Fabio Silva’s record.
