Dahntay Jones Spills on Nearly Recruiting Paul George to Join LeBron James in Cleveland

NBA players are frequently moved, but it’s interesting to peek at what goes on behind the scenes. Fans should anticipate that there will be a lot of meetings and recruiting that we are unaware of. Though they don’t happen very often, we couldn’t resist asking ourselves “What if?”

Dahntay Jones Spills on Nearly Recruiting Paul George to Join LeBron James in Cleveland

Paul George joining LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers is one example. On the Podcast P show, Dahntay Jones detailed how things nearly went wrong.

Bron and Ky were in the room, and they were like, ‘Aight, they wanna add that, we gotta go get something. We gotta another wing.’ And it’s like, ‘Aww man, Jimmy Butler? Ehh, I don’t know if we could get… We need a shutdown corner and I’m in the back like, PG? Yeah, but don’t nobody know him.’ That’s my man! In the back, they going over like, ‘PG would be dope!

I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m a free agent so like I could call him. PG, what’s up, baby? You happy?‘” – Paul George’s recruitment by Dahntay Jones to the Cavaliers

It appears that this occurred in the 2017 summer. After losing to the Cavaliers in the 2016 Finals, the Golden State Warriors signed Kevin Durant, and they destroyed Cleveland in 2017. George fills in as the second wing that was intended to protect Durant.

As per the rumors, this deal would have gone through if Indiana Pacers general manager Kevin Pritchard hadn’t turned a blind eye. George would have gone to Cleveland, Kevin Love to the Denver Nuggets, and Gary Harris (among others) to the Pacers as part of a purported three-team trade. Ultimately, Pritchard withdrew and dealt George to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.

Even without Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers made it to the Finals in 2018. For Isaiah Thomas and other players, they dealt Irving to the Boston Celtics. It’s conceivable that Irving wouldn’t have acted out and that basketball fans would have witnessed the three-headed monster in Cleveland playing the Durant-Stephen Curry Warriors if the George trade had gone through.

Could it be This Year?
One of the talking topics of the chat, according to Jones, is the Finals berth and what it could mean for the 33-year-old’s career. George has yet to participate in an NBA championship series seven years later.

Is this the year? Well, a lot of people believe so. For one thing, Kendrick Perkins thinks the Clippers are sure to win the championship with a healthy roster. In the James Harden era, the team’s record is now 31-13. The Clippers are unquestionably a formidable team.
