Celtic attempted to sign David Templeton for the Rangers.

Then, as Rangers made their debut in the Third Division, the cash-strapped Hearts offered Templeton,

and the talented forward finally made the switch over the M8.

The winger told Open Goal that he was meeting Ally McCoist

at the Rangers training facility when he got a call informing him that the Scottish Champions were interested in signing him.

They attempted to trade Ryan McGowan and me to the Rangers.

We were in Murray Park together. Gowser must have known,

because he left for China six months later, earning around £20,000 a week.

He told Coisty that he wasn’t signing because of this.

“I got to know the gaffer. He was clever and entertaining.

He seems to have been speaking with you, and to be fair, he is hilarious.

I ran into him at Murray Park. Actually, I

was sitting outside Murray Park when I got a call from Celtic.

They desired that I hold out for the remainder of the season under my contract.

Celtic showed interest in Templeton since he was a dangerous winger in his prime.

However,

it was probably not surprise that Celtic decided against taking a chance on Templeton given his history of injuries.

Particularly at that stage of downsizing,

it should come as no surprise that Celtic attempted to orchestrate a transaction that included adding a player as a free agent. Templeton was thought to have cost the Ibrox club £700k;

Celtic would have had to wait another year to sign the player for nothing.

Due to a string of injuries throughout his tenure with the Rangers,

the footballer announced his retirement from professional football in November 2021.

Templeton is now a Drumchapel United player.
