The Chicago Bears’ previous free agent has decided not to re-sign with the team.

With regard to both free agents on their current roster and those on the rosters of other clubs,

the Chicago Bears will have a lot of decisions to make. Robert Tonyan is a player the team signed last year,

but they have no intention of signing him again.

Robert Tonyan will not be re-signed by the Chicago Bears in free agency.

Tonyan had some promise when he joined the Chicago Bears.

After suffering a severe injury in 2021 that reduced his output that year,

he began to recover in 2022. Reunited with Luke Getsy,

his former teammate on the Green Bay Packers, Tonyan appeared to be a solid match inside the offense.

Still, none of that materialized. In terms of yards, Tonyan had a career-low,

even accounting for the year he returned from injury.

While with the Bears, he ran routes for 0.68 yards on average.

He has a career average of 1.26 yards per route run, to put things in context.

Prior to that season, his career low was 1.06.

His most famous moment as a Chicago Bears pass receiver came when he failed to

score a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns in a game the team lost by three points.

Since Tonyan has never been a strong blocker, Marcedes Lewis was signed by the team.

In other words, he was serving as a pass catcher just as much as a blocker. He is not involved in this offense in any way.

The reason he was here in the first place was because Getsy was gone.

In addition to the Bears‘ lack of interest, Tonyan won’t desire to come back.

His output was low, the coaches he likes are no longer there,

and there will be changes at quarterback. Tonyan will look for a new team,

and the Chicago Bears will recruit a new tight end, therefore both parties will find new partners.
