Jefte has been left ‘paying the price’ for going AWOL in pursuit of a move to Rangers.
Philippe Clement wanted to sign the Brazilian left-back during the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old is under contract with Fluminense in his native Brazil but is on loan at APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus,
but the deal falls through shortly before the deadline.Rangers signed Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande,
and Oscar Cortes during the winter transfer window. A summer move could still be on the cards,
with the Ibrox club reportedly holding the option to sign Jefte in the summer.
According to reports, Jefte went ‘AWOL’ and missed APOEL training while attempting to complete a move to Glasgow.
He has subsequently returned to the Cypriot club, but his employer has expressed his displeasure.
According to Kerkida, the youngster’s return ‘did not come off very clean’,
and manager Ricardo Sa Pinto was not pleased. Jefte is said to be ‘collecting the fine based on internal regulations’ as he pays for his January acts.
His public apology will also have a ‘vital role’ in how his return to activity is carried out.
After the transfer, he posted on social media, “To all APOEL fans, my teammates,
the coach, the president, and the entire club staff, I would like to communicate my apology for my absence.”
“At the time of the incident, I didn’t feel like I could help the club, so I left. The institution deserves my full commitment, attention, and focus, as it has in recent months and will continue to do so.
“We remain stronger than ever and are now 100% focused on the main objective of winning the championship.”
