It turns out that James’s Knicks towel may be hiding more than meets the eye. In a podcast episode, Windhorst expressed his belief that James wore the Knicks towel in an effort to “put pressure on the Lakers.” Windhorst and The Hoop Collective.

“He was cognizant and aware that he was putting on a towel that said New York Knicks. Why would he mess with the Knicks? Because he was using the Knicks as a tool to pressure the Lakers,” Windhorst stated.

Although Ohm Youngmisuk, a guest and fellow reporter, pointed out that the Knicks provide towels with their emblem to every team, Windhorst’s overall point remains valid, particularly in light of James’s previous behavior.

James, 39, is nearing the end of his playing days and probably wants to compete for an NBA championship one more time. If the Lakers, who are now 26–25 and only a sliver of the Western Conference playoff picture, wish to offer him that chance, they must get better.

This could be Los Angeles’ chance to do so come trade deadline time. Windhorst seems to think that James is putting pressure on the Lakers to act quickly or face consequences.

James is averaging 24.9 points, 7.6 assists, and 7.4 rebounds per game in his 21st NBA season.
