Chris Sutton has stated unequivocally that Celtic’s lack of activity in the January transfer window is a ‘collective’ responsibility.

From requiring a left-back to wanting to sign players with more quality and experience.

Aside from one of those players, no one entered the Parkhead door.

Celtic fans were understandably irritated and angered by the situation,

with Brendan Rodgers declaring that the club can ‘be braver’ in the transfer market.

Chris Sutton wanted the manager to ‘explain’ those words so that ‘everyone can understand where the guilt lies’,

he told Sky Sports Football (03/02/24 @ 11:55 am).

Brendan Rodgers has been calling for improved quality for months. These remarks were heard loud and clear.

Since then, the team’s performance on the pitch hasn’t improved much, but it did its job against Rangers.

But the powers that be have known this for a long time,

and the lack of activity during the winter was disconcerting and now concerning.

That is why Chris Sutton sought clarification from those transfer comments,

as well as an explanation for why the recruitment, or lack thereof, was such a shambles.

Celtic’s Transfer Business

“Brendan Rodgers said that he wanted quality in, then signing two players,

Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah,” Sutton told the BBC. “I consider them both as developing players.

“When Brendan discussed bringing quality in. I believe everyone expected more experienced,

tried, and tested players. For whatever reason, they haven’t crossed the boundary.

“The bottom line is that they did not learn from their mistakes.”

They botched up the summer transfer window, which cost them their place in the Champions League.

A very dismal European campaign hasn’t improved the situation.

“When January arrives, you expect Celtic to be proactive, based on what Brendan has said.

As far as I can tell, Celtic have been in need of a left-back for quite some time. They have not recruited in that area.

“There is some finger-pointing as to who is to blame. I believe it’s a collective.

Brendan’s statement about ‘the need to be braver’.

I believe he should explain this so that everyone understands where the guilt lies.”

Increased pressure on Brendan Rodgers.

This only adds to the manager’s and players’ anger, since fans will vent their rage if results continue to be poor.

What’s worse for Rodgers is that his team’s performances have been disappointing.

He can whine about transfers or the lack thereof all he wants,

but it should not prevent him from improving his present players’ performance.

Some people seem to forget that several of these players have won trebles.

Last season, they looked radically different under Ange Postecoglou.

However, everything appears to be spinning on its head, and Rodgers bears a significant amount of blame for this.
