Breaking: NFL Insider Says Chicago Bears Will Trade Justin Fields to Take Caleb Williams with No. 1 Overall Pick
According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter’s claim on The Pat McAfee Show,
the Chicago Bears will draft highly regarded quarterback prospect Caleb Williams first overall in the 2024 NFL draft.
Schefter believes the opinion around the league is that the Bears will deal Justin Fields, but he doesn’t say it’s a guarantee.
Schefter went on to say that he does not believe the Bears value former North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye or former LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels enough to pass on Williams.
Schefter noted one essential point: Caleb Williams does not currently have a representation, and an agent would be required for Williams to request a trip to Washington in the same way that John Elway or Eli Manning did.
Caleb Williams, potential Chicago Bears quarterback, has been a unanimous top prospect since the 2022 season.
Caleb Williams originally appeared on the scene as a backup to Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Spencer Rattler.
Williams stepped in while the Sooners were trailing 28-7 to the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry,
and he led the greatest comeback in the rivalry’s history.
Williams had previously seen the field during garbage time, but this was his first opportunity to play important plays in college football.
Caleb concluded the season as the Sooners’ signal caller before going to the USC Trojans under head coach Lincoln Riley.
Williams continued to blaze up the field at USC, throwing for 4,537 yards in 2022. His 42 touchdowns and five interceptions confirmed him as one of the best prospective quarterback prospects. Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 2022 as a sophomore.
Williams continued to play at an elite level in 2023, but a lower team performance prevented him from winning the Heisman once more.
Regardless, he finished with 3,633 throwing yards, 30 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.
William tossed the ball 112 fewer times but finished with a career-high 68.6 completion rate.
Former USC running back and fellow Heisman winner Reggie Bush agreed that Williams should be compared to great Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but he went a step further in a piece for GQ.
“I believe Caleb is a more explosive athlete than Patrick. He’s an explosive runner with the football.
Mahomes is hardly an explosive runner with the football. Mahomes is inventive, crafty,
and will buy you some time and a first down—but Caleb can take it all the way.”
Justin Fields, the Chicago Bears quarterback, has not done enough for the Bears to continue with him. Caleb Williams
The progress of Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has sparked heated debate among Bears supporters.
Fields has 6,674 yards throwing and 40 touchdowns to 30 interceptions in three seasons with the Bears.
Aside from the throwing game, Fields has tremendous rushing potential.
In 2022, he recorded the second-best rushing season for a quarterback in NFL history, totaling 1,143 yards.
Along with the 30 interceptions, Fields fumbles frequently as a rusher.
He fumbled nine times in 2022 and 16 times overall as a Chicago Bear.
Some fans believe Fields never had a chance to succeed as the Bears organization didn’t provide him with a good enough supporting cast
Others believe Fields was given his shot and that receivers such as D.J. Moore should be enough to show what he is capable of with the Chicago Bears.
Some say he has shown enough and that the Chicago Bears should continue to build around him.
If the Chicago Bears do decide to trade Justin Fields, the asking price could be wide-ranging. Fields’ skill is unclear,
as is what teams will be willing to give up for him,
especially given that the Bears would virtually have to get rid of him if they choose Caleb Williams.
