Rangers’ prospects of signing Lawrence Shankland and Abdallah Sima in the summer would improve dramatically if they qualify for the Champions League, according to Football Insider sources.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke highlighted that the additional monies from qualifying for the competition will be a major help in their efforts to sign high-value strikers.

Shankland has had two record-breaking offers to extend his contract at Hearts, but has yet to sign new terms amid talk over a move to Ibrox.

Rangers are want to retain Sima after his loan term from Brighton expires, and according to Football Insider (31 December),

the Seagulls would be willing to  sell him if their £15million valuation is met.

However, offers for the pair are contingent on Rangers qualifying for the Champions League group stages,

which they did not do this season.

Shankland has long been linked with a move to Rangers,

and he is now the Scottish Premiership’s leading goal scorer with 14.

Sima has been a revelation for the Gers since his arrival in the summer,

and he currently leads the team in all competitions with 15 goals in 33 appearances.

However, he could miss the rest of the season after suffering a horrific thigh injury while training with Senegal for the African Cup of Nations last month.

Rangers are second in the league after a 1-0 away victory over St Mirren on Saturday (27 January).

Their next match is against Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon (3 February).
