It is improbable that Rangers will be able to afford to acquire Abdallah Sima permanently in the summer. Unless, as insiders have told Football Insider, they make it into the Champions League.

Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke spoke with Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast on its most recent episode. The forward’s horrific injury from the African Cup of Nations may have made this his final game for the Gers.

Brighton, Sima’s parent club, is said to be seeking a minimum £15 million summer transfer fee. Should Rangers not make it out of the Champions League group stages, the deal might not proceed due to its potential high cost.

The 22-year-old sustained a thigh injury during AFCON training with Senegal, and Philippe Clement has said he will be for a long time.

He might be sidelined for the rest of the season which will be a significant setback for the Ibrox giants. Sima leads Rangers in scoring in all competitions with 15 goals in 35 appearances this season, and he has been a major contributor to the team’s recovery since Clement’s arrival.

Football Insider (December 31) said that Brighton would be open to selling Sima because they have several elite attacking options available and he does not fit into their long-term ambitions.
