According to Guilherme Alves, an internal report from Cruzeiro indicates

that Jose Cifuentes’ transfer from Rangers to the Brazilian team is almost complete.

Late on January 31, a Versus Esporte journalist tweeted that there was

hope the deal will close in the next several hours.

The Light Blues accepted a loan-to-buy bid from Rizespor for Cifuente, 24,

but he had no desire in moving to Turkey.

Translated into English, Alves wrote: “The result of the negotiations between Cruzeiro and José Cifuentes is almost certain.

” According to some I spoke with, internally, the situation is viewed as nearly entirely accurate.

“There is hope that this will happen in the next few hours, but the contract has not yet been signed.”

Another summer acquisition, Sam Lammers, has not fared well at Ibrox and has already returned to the Netherlands on loan to play for FC Utrecht in January.

Rangers and Cifuentes would undoubtedly be equally disappointed that his decision to

move to Glasgow turned out to be such a blunder, given Michael Beale had been pursuing the

Ecuadorian for weeks before to his summer transfer.

On his debut, the former LAFC player appeared to be just what the Gers needed in the basis of their midfield.

However, his form never settled, and his lack of fitness made it difficult for him to play for the club for an extended period of time.

If he had gone through with the Rizespor agreement the club had accepted,

they would have actually made money on the move;

however, it is unclear if the money involved in a Brazilian move is equal.

If a speedy, cost-effective solution could be discovered for a challenging scenario,

that would be a clear plus, but if it is completed, it will be very close to the deadline.

If it doesn’t happen then Philippe Clement could in theory still use him,

but having spent big on a loan-to-buy obligation for Mohamed Diomande it doesn’t seem likely in the immediate term, so it looks to be in everyone’s interest for a Cifuentes move to go through.

In other Rangers news, on Deadline Day,

a player who has signed the necessary paperwork will be revealed as the new Light Blues player.
