The Gators triumph in their first away game against a top-10 team for the first time in more than 20 years.

WCJB, LEXINGTON, KY – There is no doubt about that. Although history cannot be changed by a single statement, it may be rewritten. The Gators were 2 and 9 in their previous 11 games in Rupp Arena, and they had lost their previous five games against Kentucky.

On Wednesday night, Florida traveled to Lexington and triumphed 94-91 in overtime, earning perhaps Todd Golden’s finest victory in his nearly two-year tenure with the Gators.

The clubs’ previous meeting resulted in a predicted 87-85 loss at the O’Connell Center to the Wildcats (15-5) in their encounter.

The (15-6) Gators were committed to playing two halves of basketball and sticking to the tempo that had contributed to their previous 14 victories from the first tip-off. But with four minutes remaining in the opening frame. Kentucky had a 41-31 lead after going on a 16-6 run. Then, Florida unexpectedly wins the next five points to close out the half, 41–36.

The Gators took a 42-41 lead in the second half after scoring the opening six points. Up until the very last second, neither Florida nor Kentucky were able to gain any leverage.

The Wildcats managed to build an 83-79 lead, but Tyrese Samuel fouled Rob Dillingham of the Wildcats and made a basket to trim the deficit to two. After making the first one, the rookie made the second one poorly.
