‘Honoured and privileged’ – Rangers finally get first Deadline Day deal over the line
Oscar Cortes, a talented winger from RC Lens, has officially signed with Scottish powerhouse Rangers.
The 20-year-old makes his debut for the team during the summer transfer window, with the option to extend
his stay on loan until the end of the current campaign.
After adding Mohamed Dimonade and Fabio Silva earlier in the month, the Colombian international is Philippe Clement’s
third acquisition as Rangers manager in what has turned out to be a successful first transfer window.
Only a few days after turning eighteen, Cortes earned a name for himself with the local team
Millonarios and became a first team standout.
His performances attracted the attention of RC Lens, the French runners-up from the previous season,
who paid £4 million to sign him.
With just four league games, he has only scored one goal, indicating that his possibilities to flourish in
French football are limited.
The youthful player, nevertheless, is sure he can have an immediate influence at Ibrox and says
he can’t wait to meet his new teammates. The young player continued by praising the club’s heritage and tradition,
saying that it had a significant role in his choice.
“I am very honoured and privileged to be signing for Rangers,” Cortes stated on the Rangers website.
“I’ve learned a lot about the Rangers’ heritage and past, and I’ve had encouraging talks with the manager,
who believes I can contribute to the team’s success this season. Together with my teammates,
I am quite eager to play and hopefully excite the crowd.
Upon his arrival, Clement expressed his admiration for the Colombian and stated he will be
a valuable addition to the team.
“I am really delighted to add Oscar to our squad,” the Belgian continued.
“I think he will be a big asset to the squad as we fight on three fronts for the rest of the season.
Our discussions have been really positive.” Oscar has a great deal of enthusiasm for our group goals and objectives,
and his skill set will provide our forward line some much-needed competition.
