Travis Perry creates history in high school basketball.

Over the years, the Bluegrass state has produced some exceptional high school athletes. One guard who will play for the Kentucky Wildcats, Chris Lofton, Darius Miller, and Reed Sheppard, to mention a few of the most recent additions, has just joined a select group of athletes from all across the nation.

Travis Perry became the tenth player in high school history to reach the career milestone when he just eclipsed the mark of 5,000 points in a single game during the All-A Classic.

Jordan Divens of MaxPreps, with whom Perry recently spoke, reports that the star guard is more concerned with returning to Rupp Arena than he is with the recognition he is receiving personally.

“Winning a state championship is our primary objective as a team,” Perry said Divens. “Winning the regional championship two years in a row is something our high school hasn’t done in 71 years, so our goal is to return to Rupp Arena and hopefully win the championship.”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard from Eddyville broke “King” Kelly Coleman’s record for the most points scored by a Kentucky high school last season. Coleman finished with 4,337 points in his own career. Many people believed that the record would never be surpassed, but Perry is set to smash it.

John Calipari and his staff are getting one of the elite scorers in high school basketball history, and are going to pair him alongside some of the elite recruits in the class of 2024. Should be a fun season at Rupp next year.
